Announcement of Postdoctoral Position on Waves in Random and Structured Media

Description:

A postdoctoral position is open in the group of Azriel Genack of the Department of Physics at Queens College and The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY), https://physics.qc.cuny.edu/people/faculty/agenack. The research will explore the statistics and scaling of the transmission, velocity, energy density, and time delay of transmission eigenchannels of waves propagating in random scattering samples and coupled dielectric waveguide arrays. The sensitivity of transmission zeros to deformation of a medium and their use for ultrasensitive detection will also be explored. The research will involve collaboration with the group of Mohammad-Ali Miri of Queens College on random mappings between field channels with different dimensionalities at the input and output planes and their usefulness for dimensionality reduction. The work may involve a collaboration with the group of Patrick Sebbah on the local density of states in random media confined to a waveguide. The research activity may involve microwave and optical measurements, theoretical methods such as random matrix theory, and numerical simulations.

The work may involve the use of facilities at the Photonics and Nanoscience Initiatives of the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center. The research position involves writing up research for publication and presenting the work at national and international conferences. This work is funded by an award from the National Science Foundation.

Compensation:

Annual salary is based on experience and is in the range of $56,000-60,000 and includes health insurance through the CUNY Research Foundation. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

Timeframe for applications:

There is no application deadline. An offer will be made as soon as a qualified candidate is identified.

Application Procedure:

All application and letters of reference should be submitted to Azriel Genack at ganeca@kcqc.nu.ydeu

List of Application Documents to be sent:

  • Letter of application including a brief summary of past research experiences and accomplishments
